The Heart is Your Tether | Vital Roots 003
My service to women is fundamentally guided by a profound interest in medicinal plants.
My service to women is fundamentally guided by a profound interest in medicinal plants. This involves an ongoing process of discovery and revelation to (try to) understand what they have to offer humanity. Long before chemistry and the science of medicine, women were quite often the keepers of the remedies and had intimate relationships with the flora of their surroundings. One of the beautiful gifts of being a woman is that you are intrinsically connected to this long lineage of women wisdom keepers, whether you think you are or not!
Just as the womb within every woman is the direct line to the realm of souls, your heart is the tether to the spirits of your natural environment. Stephen Harrod Buhner wrote a fantastic book called “The Secret Teachings of Plants: The Intelligence of the Heart in the Direct Perception of Nature”, where he teachers the reader about the heart’s perceptive ability to receive the spiritual signals of nature.
The heart is electrical as it works to balance the ebb and flow of your iron rich blood; the heart is the human’s most refined energetic transmitter and receiver, similar to the brain. Tuning in to the spiritual layer of the natural world benefits you as a a woman by drawing you in closer to your specific medicine.
Have you ever felt drawn to a certain plant, animal, or location on Earth? Considering that we could very well live in a self-regulating, battery type of realm, Life itself is inherently electrical.
While plants don’t seem to have a nervous system akin to those of animals or humans, you can communicate with plants through your heart (transmission and reception). This is what Stephen Buhner discusses in his book and is what helps the Vitalist practitioner (of any healing modality) tune more precisely into an individual’s specific medicine.
Sajah Popham describes a specific medicine as, “…one where the pattern in the plant matches the pattern in the person and the whole plant addresses the wholeness of the person, because it is aligned with the wholeness of life itself.” (Evolutionary Herbalism, Popham 378)
I would also like to add that while I am discussing the topic of specific medicine in terms of herbs and plants, it truly reaches far beyond that. As you will notice in my writing, examining the themes contained within the human fingerprint is critical to how I interpret and relate with Life. Specific medicine is exactly that, specific, and it depends on who you are independent of every human that has ever been and ever will be. This is exciting and a bona fide promise that your existence is its own unique combination of glimmers.
These are your specific medicines, too.
So, in terms of the potentials related to your health, certain plants may call your name at certain times.
Growing closer to nature and healing with its rhythms strengthens your ability to recognize patterns, signatures, and unique elements of the natural world that are compatible with your current condition. Holistic health achieves wholeness in the individual – no medicine is meant for an entire lifetime, nor should a medicine be required for Life.
The holistic approach, for any modality, is about encouraging the vital force to re-establish harmony and wholeness of the individual. You can heal yourself by exploring the Creator’s gifts of nature and perhaps one day you will discover your greatest, most specific medicine has been adorning your path all along.
